Look at these tips for being successful.

As for success in business, I guess "Let go of the past" seems to be the best tip here. There is a common mistake a lot of us are naturally prone to, which is to stick to some unsuccessful strategy just because we have invested so much time and devotion into it. That's pobably human, but it's not what successful people or companies would do.
An important concept from investment theory is so called "sunk cost", the idea that resources we've already spent should not be taken into consideration when deciding about an investment strategy. This idea more often than not works for personal success, too. It keeps people from sticking to unhealthy behaviors or relationships and frees their energy for new, self-fulfillingand prosperous steps in their own personal "investment strategy".
